Thank you for visiting our institutional website. It is a reflection of the intense activity led by a group of highly qualified persons, including researchers, technicians, students, administrative personnel and a long list of collaborators. We work together to bring the excellent research performed at ICN2 closer to society, because nanoscience and nanotechnology are one of the biggest opportunities of our time and will have an impact in every aspect of our life.
The Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2) is a private foundation with the objective of becoming a world-renowned centre for nanoscience and nanotechnology research. Its patrons are the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), the Government of Catalonia (Generalitat de Catalunya) and the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). It is part of CERCA, the network of Research Centres launched by the Catalan Government as a cornerstone of its long-term strategy to foster development of a knowledge-based economy.
The Severo Ochoa Programme, sponsored by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (MINECO), aims to identify and support Spanish research centres that are among the world’s best in their specialty. Being awarded as a Severo Ochoa Excellence Center in 2014 was an outstanding achievement, given the level of competitiveness of these awards, and meant a qualitative improvement in the research capabilities of ICN2. It is a driving force for collaborative activities between the research groups of our Institute, focused on specific, common objectives in “Nanodevices for Societal Challenges” in Life, Energy and ICT.
In this website you will find impressive figures summarizing the scientific output of ICN2: a remarkable number of articles in indexed publications with a high impact factor; our success at attracting national and international competitive funding; the constant promotion of technology transference; or, the strong involvement in huge projects such as the European Commission’s Graphene Flagship.
I invite you to join us in building a bright future every day and to participate in this collective journey towards personal and professional growth.
Prof Pablo Ordejón
Director of ICN2
